Annual Trek to Disney

We did our annual trek to Disney World.  We stayed in the Disney Treehouses.  If you don't like the noise of a hotel - this is the way to go.  Very quiet.  If you want to be able to walk to the front desk, this isn't the accommodation for you.  You have to drive or take the bus to everything.  The treehouse was very spacious, so that was very nice.

Flounces for Bonnie

I made a summer top for Bonnie last month.  I used OOP McCalls 5573. 

I cheated and sewed the buttons on the fabric without buttonholes.

This fabric is a cotton broad cloth from either JoAnns or Hancock's sale table.  I can't remember which one.  The buttons are from the stash.  I think I got them free in a grab bag from my cousin. 

I like the look of the top, but if I made it again I would make the straps wider.  It also gapes a little at the neck.  It's too cold to wear now, so we'll see if it fits her better next year.  I might be able to add some red lace. 

Green with Sheen

I made another Simplicity 2369.

I used two of the left side bodice pieces and left off the bow. I used elastic for the sleeves.
I tried to be creative and used the wrong side of the fabric for the back, sleeves and left bodice and the right side of the fabric for the right bodice. Unfortunately you can't really tell.

The fabric is a poly knit from JoAnn's clearance table. I think it cost $10 total.

The fabric is probably a little too Christmas like. I thought with the right skirt it could be worn for work. I am wearing it with a linen skirt I made about 15 years ago.

I finished the neck edge by adding a folded binding. To do this cut a 2 inch strip on the straight grain (not bias!) the length of the neck edge minus approximately 5 inches. Fold the strip in half and equally distribute along neck edge, stretch and sew. Press binding up (see photo below). Stitch closely to binding edge with coverstitch or double needle. This is the same neck edge found on t-shirts.

Grandma's Top

This is probably a top I will never wear again. Bill and I both determined that this is a top that his mother would have given me as a gift - that I would never wear. It has grandma love all over it.

I have no clue what drew me to this fabric, but it is from the G Street 2.97 table.  It is a square print for a scarf.  It took forever to lay out so that the print was centered. 



It is entirely stitched on the serger except for the back neck band.  The hems are all coverstitched. 

The pattern is Burda  Plus 2009 F/W - 403.

The original pattern was VERY low.  (Burda likes a bosom...).

I have since altered the pattern so that folks can't look down and see my belly button at work.

Just in Time for Christmas

Well, moving right along into Fall  winter sewing for the year.  I made another Burda cowl using Burda Plus 2009 F/W - 403.

  The fabric is eyelash acrylic (I think?) novelty fabric that I got from JoAnn's clearance section. I think it was about $3 a yard, so this was a $7.50 top.


The entire top is serged except for the back neck stand.  I coverstitched the hems.

I look slightly deranged in these pictures...- but my hair looks good. I guess you can't have everything. I'd like to wear this to work, but it might be a bit too sparkly.
