Bonnie's Silk Dress

In 2004, I made Bonnie a dress to wear to Bill's brother's wedding. I can't find a picture of her in the dress. If I find one, I will post it. At the wedding, she was fussy so I took her out of the church to the vestibule where she proceeded to step through the delicate lace border (you can see my hasty patch work on the front right side of the dress). I bought thread and a needle at a fabric store between the wedding and the reception and hastily tried to tack it up. This is not easy - heirloom sewing creates a scant 1/8 hem. Not a lot to work with.

Closeup of the back of the dress. I think I bought the dupioni from Curran Designer Fabrics. The laces are from GStreet Fabrics.

I'm not sure what pattern I used.

More sewing for Jesus

Before my brother-in-law became a priest, he served as a deacon for one year. As a deacon, you need a "wardrobe" of stoles that you wear depending on the day of the year. I made him 3 stoles:
Green is for Ordinary time - your basic day at mass.
Red is for feasts of martyrs and on Pentecost, Passion Sunday, and feasts of the apostles. (Red for the color of blood)
Purple for Advent and Lent (It means it's a really important day...)
For more info on litergical colors.

Closeup of the embroidery motif. All embroidery designs are from Ann the Gran.

Closeup of the purple stole. I made a copy of a stole I borrowed from "loaner" stoles at church. The church secretary was very accomodating.

Sewin' for Jesus

My brother-in-law was ordained a Catholic priest in June of 2003. I made him one of his priestly vestments. I copied it from a vestment he had made in Rome. The material is red poly/cotton from JoAnns. The piping and bias binding is novelty fabric with gold, green, blue and black lame from my stash. I used an embroidery motif from Ann the Gran.
